Learner driver research: text message trial

Kathy Manson

DVSA is working with its Behaviour Insights Team to send text messages to car test candidates to:

  • Make sure they’re better prepared to take their test
  • Encourage them not to take their test before they’re ready
  • Help keep them safer once they’ve passed

Between now and March the DVSA will be trialling a variety of texts with safety messages. These will be sent to some learners in the lead up to their driving test or a month after.

If your pupil receives a text message from the DVSA, you should reassure them this is a legitimate message and they shouldn’t be concerned.

Some of you might also receive these text messages if you book tests on your pupil’s behalf. If this happens you won’t need to reply.
