Apply for verified driver trainer certification during the COVID-19 outbreak

Registration, access to the online courses and resources for trainers and their pupils, and the key worker trainer badge is free. As well as developing resources designed to help key workers at this time, DIA is also donating to NHS Charities Together. Should you wish to donate too simply follow the link below.

Due to current social distancing measures, the government has stipulated that people should only drive for essential journeys. The risks of in-vehicle training, and the suspension of driving tests for non-essential pupils, mean that only the training of key workers is advised at this time.

This register has been set up to allow those trainers who are carrying out essential training to validate their work, gain certification to display in their car and receive important training and guidance on working safely during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Registration, training and certification is entirely voluntary and trainers are not obliged to join the register, or use these resources. They are being provided as a helpful, advisory and professional development resource for the industry during this unprecedented period of crisis and change.

If you train both drivers and riders please register for your main training area and tick the appropriate box on the registration form

Resources for key worker drivers/riders

As a key worker, you may be driving more frequently for work at this time. Perhaps you have recently become an occupational driver as they are much needed during this crisis. Either way, our online resources can help you mitigate the risks of COVID-19 in the driving or riding element of your role, as well as help manage your increased risks as an occupational driver.

Already registered with us as a key worker driver/rider trainer and need to add another key worker?

How registration works

Here are the key steps to registering and obtaining your certificate.

Verify you are training key workers

We need you to verify you are only training key workers who need to be able to drive or ride so we will ask you to show evidence of this from your pupil(s).

Declaration

Make a declaration that this certification will only be used for the purposes of training key workers and not for use when training regular pupils (as this type of training is discouraged at this time)

Short online workshop on safe training protocols

We have put together a short online course for trainers and pupils who will be engaged in training at this time. This is to help mitigate risks as much as possible for all concerned.

Theory test

After you have completed the online course, you will be asked to complete a short theory test based on the course content

Trainer added to register and issued key worker trainer badge with unique ID

Once you have completed the course content and theory test, we will issue you with your unique ID and key worker trainer badge

Key worker trainer badge displayed in vehicle

You will now be able to print your key worker trainer badge to display in your car. We encourage you to display this at all times when delivering training for verified key workers

Any queries or challenges

If challenged as to why you are training at this time, registered trainers can give their unique registration number and direct any queries to verify@driving.org where we will confirm your training is necessary. Police forces regionally have been notified of the scheme and the register has been created in consultation with DVSA.

Please note: The in-vehicle training of key workers is entirely at the discretion and risk of the individual trainer/training school at this time. Trainers should carefully evaluate whether the pupil has an essential need for on road training at this time before onboarding them. Should you need further guidance on this issue please contact support@driving.org
